John Nyembo is a basketball coach and teacher in Dallas, Texas. He is also the founder and visionary of DR Congo Basketball, an organization dedicated to the development of Congolese basketball. Coach Nyembo is passionate about Congo and the game of basketball. Through his basketball and educational initiatives, he hopes to play an important part in developing the next generation of basketball players in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. For the last 10 years he has been training Congolese high school and college athletes living in Canada and the US. His overall goals are to advance the development of basketball in the DRC with camps, coaching clinics, and a national training program for the best young Congolese basketball players. DR Congo Basketball also provides resources to Congolese coaches. Resources such as, training, financial support, as well as providing basketball equipment for the basketball community. As of today, DR Congo Basketball has been able to provide educational opportunities to over 20 Congolese high schools students through exposure to establish prep schools in the United States, Canada, and Europe. They hope to build DRC Elite Academy a boarding school that will offer student-athletes an integrated academic and athletic experience in Kinshasa, DRC. He believes that he can use basketball to assist the country on a social-economic level.
