Tshiunza Kalubi Jim
Deputy Executive Director, Leja Bulela, Inc.
Tshiunza Kalubi is the Deputy Executive Director for Leja Bulela, Inc., a U.S.-based non-profit that secures justice, fair treatment, and economic growth for the Luba-Kasai in the Democratic Republic of Congo. "Leja Bulela" means "show that you care" in the Tshiluba language and the organization recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. Leja Bulela's largest initiative to date is the Kalala Muzeu Health Center, which serves a population of over 50,000 individuals in the rural Tshibombo Tshimuangi community of Kasai Oriental. Before becoming Deputy Executive Director of Leja Bulela, Tshiunza was on the board of the Greater Cincinnati Homeless Coalition and served as Leja Bulela's Secretary. He traveled to Congo twice on behalf of the organizations to coordinate projects at the Kalala Muzeu Health Center. The first trip to install two solar suitcases in partnership with We Care Solar, and later to install a more extensive, permanent solar installation with Sonlight Power. Tshiunza received his Masters of Arts in Real Estate Development & Planning from Saint Louis University. Tshiunza received his Bachelors of Arts in Urban Planning and Public Administration from Miami University. While in St. Louis, he worked for the Washington University Medical Center Redevelopment Corporation and developed a strong interest in community development. That interest in community development led to him back to his hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio where he worked for the City of Cincinnati managing various single-family and multi-family construction projects. Tshiunza currently lives in Dallas, Texas where he is an Area Redevelopment Manager with the City of Dallas.
