Software Engineer, MicrosoftJosuel Musambaghani is a Software Engineer and Entrepreneur from Goma, DR Congo. He is a 2018 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, having earned two degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science, and being the valedictorian in both majors.
Josuel’s move to the United States in 2014 marked a watershed in his technological career. He went on to work with major Silicon Valley startup and organizations, Jawbone, the then consumer technology startup, Code2040, the racial equity nonprofit, and Slack, the digital collaboration hub, being a few of them.
At Slack, Josuel built key tools such as “All Unreads”, a feature that lets Slack users rapidly catch up on missed messages while away from Slack. This feature drastically improved users’ experience, reducing catch up time on unread messages by more than 40%.
Josuel now works as a Software Engineer at Microsoft, the Washington-based leading global vendor of computer software, hardware, gaming systems and cloud services. At Microsoft, he works in the cybersecurity division, ensuring that all of the company's information and services are protected, secured and available for appropriate use through innovation and a robust risk framework. Josuel’s team won the 2019 CSO50 Award, an accolade that recognizes organizations for security projects and initiatives that demonstrate outstanding business value.
Outside of his immediate work group, Josuel serves on the Advisory Board for the Microsoft Aspire Experience, a 2-year development program designed to empower 4000+ university hires to thrive in business life, accelerate their impact, and engage with a vibrant community. As the most junior member of the board, he brings a fresh and nuanced perspective to evaluate, review, and assess the program. He also is heavily involved in the Africans at Microsoft employee network group, helping amplify Microsoft’s initiatives related to Africa and the African continent.
Beyond Microsoft, Josuel is the cofounder and chairman of Kwafrika Travel Ltd, a customer centric digital tour operator aimed at harnessing the economic value of natural resources of the continent by both attracting tourists from all over the world and incentivizing the local population on the needs to protect those resources. Kwafrika is headquartered in Goma, Nord Kivu. In June 2019 alone, Kwafrika received 10+ guests from all over the world, keen to visit the urban and non-urban sites, including the Nyiragongo volcano, the mountains gorillas, the rocky beautiful city of Goma, and cities in neighboring countries.
